Who we are

Our mission is to encourage residents of Loughrea and the surrounding communities to embrace their shared social responsibility when it comes to energy consumption and sustainability. By working together, small changes in how we heat our homes, travel, recycle, and use resources can have a meaningful impact on both our local environment and the wider climate.

Through community initiatives, education, and local engagement, we aim to empower households to make more informed energy choices that reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and support a healthier environment for future generations. From promoting biodiversity and supporting recycling initiatives to encouraging sustainable transport and improving the energy efficiency of homes, our goal is to help create a more resilient and environmentally conscious community.

Together, we believe that collective action at a local level can drive real and lasting change for Loughrea and the wider area.

Our Projects

  • Walking School Bus

    A walking School Bus is a safe way for children to walk to school. It is good for children allowing them to have regular daily exercise and reinforcing the habit of walking for shorter journeys.

  • Sustainability Event - May 2025

    A sustainability event consisting of energy providers, the Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland (SEAI), Naomh Breandan Credit Union and schools showcasing their sustainability projects.

  • Sustainable Development Goals - St. Patrick's Day

    The theme for the parade in 2025 was 'Connections' and SEW together with the credit union promoted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that connects all that we do in our lives and in the community. 

  • Tidy Towns

    Sustainable Energy West works together with Loughrea Tidy Towns to keep the town clean and adding flowers & plants to brighten the area.

  • Biodiversity Garden

    Tucked away at the back of Naomh Breandan Credit Union it was created to support local pollinators and promote biodiversity in our community, the garden is filled with flower and plants that help bees, butterflies and other vital species thrive.
